Joseph Cope, M.Ed., known professionally as “The Empathy Guy,” is a keynote speaker, author, and former award‑winning middle school educator who helps organizations transform empathy from a soft idea into a fierce leadership skill that strengthens accountability, communication, and performance. Years in some of America’s toughest classrooms taught Joseph something most leadership books overlook: people rarely resist change itself. They resist the way change is delivered. That insight became the foundation for his work on Fierce Empathy.
Through his frameworks Fierce Empathy, Empathy With Intention, and the CARGO model, Joseph teaches leaders how to create space for people to see the value of change for themselves. He has delivered keynotes and workshops for leadership conferences, associations, and organizations navigating high emotional labor and high accountability environments. Joseph is the author of the forthcoming leadership book Fierce Empathy: How to Lead from the Heart Without Finishing Last (Summer 2026), and audience feedback often sounds the same: the session is “eye-opening,” it tackles topics leaders usually avoid, and it reframes empathy as a practical skill to “create space for a human.” Participants consistently say the concept suddenly becomes clear, practical, and immediately usable in real leadership conversations.
