Capturing the moment by John O’Leary

It is wrong to think that love comes from long companionship. Love is the offspring of spiritual affinity and unless that affinity is created in a moment, it will not be created for years or even generations.   – Kahlil Gibran

As children, we’re reminded by adults to enjoy the summer, because (as they’d say) it goes quicker each year.  We’d hear these same sentiments about grade school, high school and college.  As newlyweds, we’re reminded to enjoy these days; the honeymoon won’t last.  We’re told that the days of children in diapers, temper tantrums, and their incessant use of the word ‘no’ is but a fleeing moment, too.  We’re reminded by others to enjoy these moments, but not how to do so.

A technique for living in the moment that I have found transformative is to set aside time each day to journal.  It forces me to slow down, put down the cell phone, and step away from meetings, children and the daily barrage of headlines.  Like a photograph, journaling allows you to capture a specific moments in life.  Unlike a photo, though, it provides the outlet to explore further the emotions of that moment; to dive into the way you felt and what you were thinking; to not only capture your past, but to create a clearer path toward your future.

If your life seems to be flying by; if you feel a bit unsure of where you’re going; if you’re interested in taking the next step forward in your journey I welcome you to explore our community at Rising Above.  You’ll be offered a unique site to slow down, enjoy more of your moments, reflect on what they really mean and begin creating an even more significant legacy.  You’ll find a site of likeminded leaders on the journey toward fulfilling their potential.  Perhaps the most powerful tool you’ll discover on the site is a personal journal to capture the moments of your life.

Today, consider slowing down and enjoying the moments in your life.  The more you wake to the significance of each moment, the more you’ll awaken the meaning of your life.
